After a year off in 2007, Akron hosted an airshow. Although the weather tried to keep people away, the skies cleared in time to dry out the flightline and permit flying. The skies were still challenging at times, but overall it was a great day. The organizers were even able to bring home a FG-1 Corsair, built at the nearby Goodyear plant during World War II.
The show itself is normally a "gem" because of the variety of aircraft. 2008 was no exception. It appears that there was an unofficial Navy theme, but the variety of aircraft was well balanced. For warbird enthusiasts, this is certainly a show to catch.
Personally, I enjoyed the PBY Catalina, and seeing my favorite C-47, the "Black Sparrow." The PBY is rare in my area, and the C-47 looks like it was just pulled an English airfield in 1944.
