2007 marked the return of AirFest to MacDill A.F.B. after a two year absence. The show is known for having a strong lineup, and 2007 was no exception. The show had something for everyone, obviously with a strong military presence.
The static display was incredible, with a large variety of aircraft. Highlights included a CV-22 Osprey, once of only 3 operational in the USAF, and a spread of various Hercules models, including an AC-130U Spectre gunship, EC-130J Hercules (an electronic countermeasures version) and LC-130H Hercules (equipped with skis to land on ice/snow).
The flight display was equally impressive. Civilian performers Herb Baker put on a wonderful display in his T-28 Trojan, equipped with wingtip smoke system, as did Bill Leff in his T-6 Texan. "Otto" the helicopter provided entertainment for the children of all ages. Rick Svetkoff piloted his F-104 Starfighter and provided the unique sound of a century series fighter. "Panchito", the D.A.V. B-25 Mitchell flew in a tribute to the Doolittle Raiders. Military displays included the KC-135 Stratotanker, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Viper, USAF Heritage Flight (w/F-86 Sabre [Snodgrass] and P-51 Mustang [Lauderback]), USSOCOM parachute team, and USN Blue Angels.
The Blue Angel pilot shown below is Lcdr. Kevin Davis, Blue Angel #6. Sadly, he passed away several weeks after the MacDill show, when he was forced to crash land at MCAS Beaufort. Davis served as the narrator (#7) for the 2006 season.
