This was a fantastic airshow! Some delay between acts, but the performances made up for it. This was my first show for 2005 and I was rusty... by the end of the show, I was getting my timing back and things were starting to look better. Disappointed that I froze the props, but like I said, it was my first show back.
The show started out with a P-3 demo, but not an "ordinary" one. This is a P-3 operated by the United States Department of Commerce, and is a hurricane chaser. This is one of the aircraft responsible for relaying weather data in severe weather.
Next up was the F-15 Eagle East Coast demo. VERY WELL DONE! This was by far the best F-15 Demo I have ever seen. Finally they did not turn off the afterburners over the crowd. They also did a very nice high speed pass that was very close to the crowd. AWESOME!
Here is a ZOOM climb. Small amounts of vapor. Not a very humid day at show level. Some vapor up high...
Mach .98 down the flight line. AWESOME!
The Flight concluded with a heritage flight which included the F-15 and a P-51 Mustang.
The 2nd Pass
Not to be out done, the Navy brought over their F/A-18F Super Hornet from the VFA-11 Red Rippers stationed at NAS Oceana. Excellent demo also, but the low humidity did not show off this true vapor creating monster. The Red Rippers have just transitioned over to the F/A-18F.
The Air Force also sent the B-1 Lancer over for a brief demo. The speaker was out in front of us, so we did not hear it was approaching. We only got one pass, but at least it was a high speed one! MORE B-1 please! The BONE Rules!
The "Stars" of the show were the Air Force Thunderbirds. Here is the Delta pass that opened the show. Note #6 just starting to pull out as him and #5 break from the formation at show center.
